Open Books
The goal of the open books program is to create a bookshelf of advanced technical books in the field of electronic design and make it available to the general public for free download.
Need for Open books
- Changes in the technology or standards can make a book obsolete before it is published.
- A small targeted audience may make commercial publication infeasible
- Books with large audience are normally for college students or entry level professionals
- Pricier books are unaffordable for out of work professionals or students
The role of open bookshelf
Open bookshelf plans to come out with a set of books written collaboratively by design engineers. These books will be made available online at zero cost.
An engineer writing for the open bookshelf will have full rights over the content written by him and will grant open bookshelf and its users limited rights under one of the CreativeCommons licenses to
- Host the content(s) on the Open bookshelf site
- Allow the end user to download and print the content of the book for his personal use only.
