By 2010 India will be the worlds Semiconductor design center

Tonight somewhere on this planet there is a businessman sitting in is office looking at his first big opportunity to sell 50,000 gadgets only if he could shrink his decade old design. He is now looking out for a team which could take his board level design and give him an ASIC. Are you the person he is looking for? Is he looking towards India to make his business successful

Last Month we had Amidi speculating that the fabless design houses will migrate to Asia, LSI Logic investing millions of dollars in communist dominated Kolkata, Renesas technologies setting up an ODC at KPIT Cummins Infosystems. If this trend continues by 2010 India will host the R & D center for all the major fabless design houses

To fabricate your chips you go to a fab. You have the big fabs which cater to the fabless Broadcom's of the world. Then there are the small fab's who are not on the cutting edge of technology but cater to the long tail. The long tail still needs design services along with the fab. Depending on the customer you need to provide IP, chip design integration and verification, testing, packaging, Silicon validation and embedded software services. Today the Taiwanese are looking towards India to fill in the gaps in their IP portfolio. Quoting from Taiwan SoC's "How to Leverage the Indian Semiconductor Strength workshop"

Recently the government and industry unanimously realize the unbalance supply and demand structure problem of local high-tech industry talents. In order to leverage the shortage of relative talents, government already took action with relative measures to foster domestic professionals and recruit overseas professionals. But the relative measures were still too slow to catch up the serious professionals demand due to quick expansion of the industry. Semiconductor Industry Promotion Office (SIPO), Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs is therefore planning to organize How to Leverage the Indian Semiconductor Strength workshop in ITRI on Nov. 20, 2006.
The organizer
  • have invited 104 Job Bank to address the professionals demand status of semiconductor industry in this year, and
  •  also invited the local companies that employed already Indian professionals to share their experience with us, and
  • asking Taiwan Branch of Indian company to introduce the cooperation mechanism of Taiwan / India semiconductor industry professionals and conducting panel discussion.
Hoping that it can provide an opportunity for local semiconductor industry companies to familiar with the mechanism and demand to employee Indian professionals via this workshop, and assist the industry to use both Taiwan / India professionals efficiently to upgrade the competitiveness of our country's semiconductor industry!

Is your company working with a Taiwanese company? Will you be attending the workshop? Write to us to share your experiences
